2010 Platform Statement of Denny Wood
- I will introduce the Federal Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) resolution, and make it the one of six priorities allowed by the Speaker of the House. Florida is one of the 15 states tha has not ratified the ERA. In this effort I will coordinate the passage of the ERA with ERA proponents. (See ERA tabs to the right and watch for more additions.)
- Miami-Dade Schools get their fair share of Tax Money paid from our County.
- The FCAT must go as the prime emphasis in education. Not a single teacher on the petition gathering process supported this FCAT emphasis.
- More dollars for Pre-K when 90% of child's brain develops before age 5. This is the highest priority, and must over emphasis the inner cities Pre-K classes. Excellent Pre-K insures excellent academics.(See link on this web site)
- 2010 Legislature assault on teachers, if successful, must be reversed by the new legislature of 2011.
- More Autism Research dollars, as 1 in 100 children have autism. (See link on this web site)
- Revisit all big business corporate tax breaks.
- Stop sales tax abuse regarding the resale tax certificate given to businesses.
- Prevent big oil drilling off the Coast of Florida. The April 2010 major Gulf spillreinforces this platform goal.
- Locations selling gasoline in Florida shall offer accessible free water and air.
- Seek legislation to prohibit medical doctors, especially specialists like Urologists, from refusing to take "Worker's Comp". Many of these claimees are severely disabled persons protected from discrimination by the Florida Constitution. Such discrimations can be deadly.
- Introduce of 1 of 6 Speaker of the House bills allowed for disabilities.
- Insure bigger payment breaks for entities that use shutters and other hurricane protection.
- Fair redistricting. (See link on this web site)
- Small business grants.
- Small grants and other mechanisms for affordable housing purchases.
- Traffic light synchronizing (Gas related)
- Turns and move on red when appropriate and safe. (Gas related)
- Health care for all children, including immigrant children.
- More state money set aside for Hurricane or Earthquake "rainy day".
- Reducing Worker Compensation for small businesses.
- Lowering Worker Compensation for low risk work categories.
- Establish a competitive state run Worker Compensation program, that eliminates huge lawyer fees, establish fee schedule for % of disability for weekly payments and eliminates law suits.
- Add stalking, and harassing of disabled person to law that allows a Judge to issue restraining order.
- NOT one Florida taxpayer dollar to the high
- speed bullet train(s) (See bullet train link on right side tab)
- NEW power lines underground. Per the FPL men who do the restorations after a hurricane. Bad idea they say on the petition meeting people. Another point of view is Huge Power Line Structures may belong underground.
- The predator list legislation must be reviewed, and only the real predators be listed. There are too many people lumped into this list for minor events and plea deals which make housing and employment too difficult.
- Sentences for crimes need a complete review as we are housing people in prison too long for offenses that do not endanger the general public.
- Consider release of inmates too old to present a risk to society to save money.
- Rehabilitation programs that make people in prison job ready must be part of incarceration for prisoners who will be released after their sentence expires. They must have a trade and be job ready.
- Legislation must be passed to prohibit the big noise machines picking up trash dumpsters and shaking and banging them to get the trash into the monster trash truck, from entering multifamily housing before 9:00 AM. 6 and 7:00 AM wake ups from these noise machines is cruel and unusual punishment for those sleeping in the early morning.
- A sunpass WEEK when all sunpass infractions, statewide are waived, clearing the courts and helping getting motorists driver's licenses cleared.
- The minium wage is not a "Living wage" for Adults and we can fix this in Florida.
- Legislation to give nonprofits dated pet food rather than trashing it.
- Make clemency easier for people to vote if they have satisfied their parole requirements.
- Reverse 2009 Growth Management law the allows new housing developments without infrastructure requirements (roads, water, etc).Read More...
- A dialogue must begin about teaching our children Chinese in our public schools. This language grows more important yearly in today's modern world of commerce.
- The toll system even backs up Sun Pass lanes. It must go. We can collect the same money with added gas tax. Even the proposed collection system proposed by reading license plates is too costly. Even Sun Pass does not catch the many people with units that do not register at Sun Pass. The Sun Pass is a court clogger.
- In a better economy I would be listing: A. Fee reduction on annual auto tag registrations. .B More money to fund elderly and disability home care programs.
