"I am a candidate that believes government should not interfere with the civil rights of men or women and a woman's choice of what to do with unwanted pregnancy, that government has no business interfering with the civil rights of gay and lesbian desires for marriage and other privileges other couples enjoy in society, that convicted felons should have immediate voting privileges after completion of sentences and parole, that all buildings should be ADA compliant, meaning that over reasonable "readily achievable access" be met: that jobs for people for disabilities should be compulsory in Federal, State and Local Government, and this should set the example for private enterprise, that their existing government health care continue after such employment, that their Social Security is activated immediately if they cannot keep their job due to illness or poor job performance, that Pre-K be fully funded, with special emphasis on Pre-K inner cities extra needs so that no child is "left behind" upon entry into the first grades, that Pre-K and elementary beginning grade levels receive the finest possible resources and materials, that any more adverse legislative action against teachers in 2010 be overturned in 2011, that the legislature recognize the purchases of needed school material for class rooms are being made out of teachers salaries, and that all means should insure that such teachers are repaid or otherwise compensated, that all pro-developer growth legislation, which creates urban sprawl without infrastructure requirements such as roads, water and sewer passed in 2009 and 2010 be reversed at the 2011 legislature, that nursing home placement be extremely avoided and home care expanded to the maximum, that nurses, teachers, fire fighters, police and other such workers in public service have the same level of public service employees pension dollars and job security rights. I have been a civil rights leader in Florida since 1972, beginning with the picketing of the Sweetwater City Building that had steps to the door but no ramp as my designated polling place.
Often, but not always, my expenses were paid by people with disabilities not for profit organizations accross Florida. In 2006 I, discovered a great void in the Officer Down Memorial erected in 2000 in the Capitol Courtyard. Police Officers killed in the line of duty got their names added to the base of the memorial. In 2006, I saw that people rarely noticed the memorial. And I decided to fix this with a life size statue. On March 9, 2009 the statue was unveiled. The Governor was the keynote speaker. I, Denny wood, sat in the back row and was recognized verbally that day by the Director of the Police Benevolent Association, John Rivera, as the concept designer of the statue. The story about this unveiling ran in Florida newspapers. The Miami Herald was the only major newspaper in Florida that chose not to run the story and photo of the Officer Down Memorial. The statue unveiling story was put out by the Associated Press and the Herald reporters based in Tallahassee knew about the unveiling of the statue on March 9, 2009.See more photos and story at www.dignity4disabled.com. Statutes get amended the next year, statues stay forever. |
2010 PLATFORM STATEMENT I will introduce the Federal Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) resolution, and make it the one of six priorities allowed by the Speaker of the House. Florida is one of the 15 states tha has not ratified the ERA. In this effort I will coordinate the passage of the ERA with ERA proponents. (See ERA tabs to the right and watch for more additions.) |
I am fully aware that House Speaker rules limit representatives to only 6 bills that they may file, and that House members can have an arsenal of amendments on hand to submit to other members germaine bills, with their approval and co-operation and that my 6 bills are elgible for the same co-operative amendment process."
